Round Robin

Overview

During the so-called "Round Robin exercise", which has been conducted during the first two years of the GHG-CCI project (Sept. 2010 - Aug. 2012), retrieval algorithms have been further improved and detailed error analysis has been carried out. The algorithms have and will be used to process satellite data in order to generate a series of CO2 and CH4 data products. The data products have been compared with reference data (ground-based observations and global models). For each data product several algorithms have been used and the corresponding data products hav been intercompared. Several improvement-processing-analysis cycles have been carried out to improve the algorithms. At the end of the two year Round Robin phase a decision has been made which of the algorithms performs best (see Algorithm Selection Report (ASR)). The selected algorithms will be used to generate the first version of ECV GHG in the third year of this project (Sept. 2012 - Aug. 2013).

A number of documents have been generated, where more details are given.

Furthermore, also initial satellite data products are available. They are contained in the Round Robin Data Package (RRDP). For access to the RRDP, see below.

Round Robin Data Package (RRDP)

The GHG-CCI Round Robin Data Package (RRDP) is a data base which contains the GHG-CCI satellite-derived data products as generated with the various retrieval algorithms under development within the GHG-CCI project.

The GHG-CCI algorithms are listed in the tables below.

For those data products which are already available the tables contain a link to the corresponding data product. Currently a password is required to access the data. Please contact us if you wish to be provided with the password.

Please note that not all products are in the final GHG-CCI format. Some products are still in the scientific formats as have been defined by the involved scientific institutions.

The following table lists the GHG-CCI ECV Core Algorithms (ECAs). Note that at least two algorithms have been further developed  in competition within GHG-CCI for each of the four products XCO2 and XCH4 from SCIAMACHY and GOSAT:

Data Base Task 3 (DBT3)

The so-called Data Base Task 3 (DBT3) contains reference data sets to be used for validation. This is an extension of the Data Base Task 2. This data base is only for project internal use. Access is therefore limited to GHG-CCI project partners: DBT3.
